First Trip to The Church

Religion is indeed an interesting subject and its absolutely fascinating how misunderstood almost all religions are - I can surely say that from my experience. This past weekend was one of the most unique experiences for me, as I visited the Mormon Church on the first Sunday of the week, "A Fast Sunday."

In my ironed white shirt and red tie, i walked to the University Parkway Center with my roommates. There was an unusual excitement on our faces. My thoughts wandered as I imagined what my experience will be like. On the way, I kept asking my roommates all sorts of questions that came to my mind, and they replied eagerly. By the time I reached the UPC doorstep, I had a vague idea what the day's proceedings would be. First, we walked into this huge hall with over a hundred people - a lot of them were familiar faces. They all waved to me with a kind and friendly smile as I walked over to the second row where a friend, the ward "grandma" had saved us three seats.

After an opening prayer, the Ward Bishop made some announcements and the sacrament was offered. After singing a couple of hymns, the podium was open for everyone to bear testimony. One by one, a few people got up and walked to the stage. My roommate also wanted to get up but felt too nervous to do so. I talked him into going up together. We both took seats behind the podium and waited for our turn. He went first and delivered an emotional testimony. After he was done, I walked up to the podium. In front of me, a hundred eager faces looking up . I started by introducing myself and where I'm from. Describing how unique of an experience BYU has been for me. I told everyone how much I appreciated the emphasis on morals, and the way it brings out the best out of BYU students. I mentioned that I do not share the same beliefs, but our lifestyles reflect identical moral values.I ended my testimony with a weird, "Thank you all very much" which made the hall dead silent.

At the end of the Sacrament meeting, the Ward Bishop appreciated everyone's commitment towards their faith and thanked me for coming, and sharing my opinion. Many of my friends also came to me, and thanked me for coming. This kind gesture made me feel very good about making the decision to go to church that day.

I think this experience will be a memorable one for me, something that I will always look back to and be glad that i took the initiative to speak to the congregation that day.

Welcome to my life

For my first blog, I decided to present you all with something I wrote for my facebook 'about me' in the info section two years ago...

A lot of you would agree that if I had simply written, "Ask mafia, they'd know better" in my about me, it would have been better!

Still, I'll take the pain. I guess it all began when I was just in second grade and my brother tried throwing a brick in the sky without realizing that gravity does exist and eventually, it landed safely on my head or maybe that other time when he locked me in the suit case while I was pretending to be his pet and then he tried opening it using a knife. You do realize that I was inside, right?
Well, those were the good old memories of sibling hood, until recently I "accidently" met myself! I found myself in quite despair and at time, agony. (I wonder what exactly led to that.)
I don't want to take it further into being morbid and instead, would appreciate telling you all about the rainbows, sunshine, unicorns and of course, everything else that involves the color pink.
I'm pathetic! Yeah, you heard me. Although I don't admit it in real life but inside, I know that and today, for some weird reason, I feel like sharing that with everyone.
Life wasn't always that bad, you see. I mean there were good times as well, like the time I got some fortitude and went up to talk to the girl I had had a crush on for over a month. Ooh yeah, that was an event.
In real life, you'll find me to be a really reserved and quite person. I don't want to be anything like that but GOSH, can't seem to help it!

Yup, you've got the inside scoop now. I wish you luck exploring the rest of me!

Well, things certainly seem to have changed since those days, and as they keep changing, I hope they are changing for the good.

I hope this wasn't too terrible for my first blog, and I hope the responses are encouraging enough to keep me posting here.

Happy blogging!
